- Greasing your actuator will greatly increase the life of
the part.
-
Wildlife, such as birds and insects, can build nests
inside the nose cone or feed horn of your dish. This can cause reception
problems. Take special precautions when removing the debris, especially in
dealing with bees.
- Flooding or excessive precipitation may cause the foundation that supports your dish to
loosen. This may cause your dish to come out of alignment.
- To protect your dish against wind damage, it is extremely important to aim
your dish at a high-elevation satellite. These are satellites such as W1,
S4, and G6. Aiming your dish at one of these satellites during a windstorm
will allow the wind to pass your dish with minimal damage. For instance, if
your dish were aimed at a satellite such as F1 (if you are on the East Coast)
or S3 (if you are on the West Coast), the wind could cause your dish to act
as a sail and therefore be forced out of adjustment.
- For protection from the rain, you may need to waterproof your dish. Be
sure to use a sealant that will not harden when it dries. If the sealant hardens,
it may become brittle over time and crack. This will allow moisture to enter
those areas in which it may be damaging. Applying an accordion sleeve
on the actuator arm and a weather cover over the feedhorn will also help in
protecting your equipment from water damage.
- Satellite dishes are prime targets for lightning strikes. Consult a local installer for
ways to avoid such damage.
- Leaves and pine needles contain moisture, which scatter satellite signals. Pruning
surrounding trees will prevent any signal loss due to obstruction and moisture.
If you experience signal loss, it may be due to the following reasons:
- The power to your videocipher may have been turned off.
- You may have been off a subscription channel for an extended period of time. This could
cause your videocipher to lose its automatic authorization.
- Your satellite system may need adjusting. If you have
any trouble getting this to work, call us
